IVYPAC Mourns the Passing of U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18)

The passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has left IVYPAC profoundly saddened, she will not be forgotten.  IVYPAC wants the family to know that IVYPAC gathers together with them to mourn the passing of a great woman.

When the herstory of IVYPAC is written, it will not only include the stories of the women who came together across the United States as founders to launch the political action committee. It will also reflect that U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) was IVYPAC's first endorsed candidate within months of IVYPAC's founding

Rep. Jackson Lee provided servant leadership in her service on behalf of her constituent's in Texas' 18th Congressional District.

She was the author and lead sponsor of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which established the first new federal holiday in 38 years.

Also Congresswoman Jackson Lee was the author and fighter for the passage of the Violence Against Women's Act.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee hailed from Queens, NY and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University with honors in the first graduating class, including females. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School.

She was married to Dr. Elwyn Lee and had two children Jason Lee and Erica Lee. She was also the proud grandmother of two grandchildren, granddaughter Ellison Bennett Carter and grandson Roy Lee Carter, III.
